“Mathematics Competitions” is a reviewed open access international journal that publishes articles of interest to academics and teachers around the world, who run mathematics competitions, including articles on actual competitions, results from competitions, essays on problem creation, links between research mathematics and mathematical Olympiads, research articles on mathematics and history of mathematics, etc. There already exists a large group of mathematicians in the world who are involved in mathematics competitions. In fact, each country has scientists working on the so-called “Competition Mathematics for school students”, developing new methods for problem solving and problem posing. This kind of mathematics has long shaped itself as a separate branch of mathematics with its specific features, trends and needs. Though considered to be “elementary,” it contains the roots of the entire contemporary mathematics and therefore deserves the attention of the professional community. It serves also to identify mathematical talent worldwide and promotes the attraction of higher ability youngsters to professional carriers in mathematics. In many cases, problems of mathematical Olympiads inspired new mathematical research.
